Daybed Skirt
Ideas on using daybed skirts that can give your daybed a neater and more complete look.
An alternative to using daybed covers is to use a daybed skirt which will also
conceal a trundle under a day bed and give them a more complete look while hiding anything under the bed in
this way. Because of the construction of the daybed frame, daybed bed skirts have split corners to easily
fall to the floor from the top of the mattresses and around the frames. The thing to watch out for here is
the length of the skirt, or "drop", because you don't want it to be too long and bunch up at the bottom. You
should be sure to measure the height from the top of the mattress to the floor. Also, even though most
daybeds use twin size mattresses, you want to make sure that this is the case before you decide to purchase a
queen bedskirt or king bedskirt to do the job. There are many different lengths and sizes available in
the daybed linen and daybed bedding sections so it should not be a problem finding the right length or size
skirt.
Styles for a daybed bedskirt can range from formal to shabby chic. They can
have starched, pressed, carefully creased lines or they can be ruffled and plain. They can also be combine
several layers of fabrics in coordinated ruffles or pleats—the possibilies are endless. The wide choice of
fabrics allow you to tailor your daybed skirt to your situation. For example, if you are using darker colors,
it is OK to have a light fabric and still cover up the underside of the bed. However, if you are using light
colors for your skirt, it may show through and you need to consider a heavier, opaque fabric here. Typically,
a solid color gives you the most leeway and versatility in any design scheme.
Then there is pattern: a daybed bed skirt can be the ideal place to add that special
interesting complement or contrast to the other fabrics in the room by choosing interesting stripes, plaids
or checks. And finally, texture: a daybed bedskirt made of a heavy textured fabric will keep its shape and
stand fresh for many year, only needing the occasional cleaning. Velvet, faux suede, chenille and matelasse
work very well here. So it is easy to fit the look to any decor you may encounter. Note that a skirt can be
purchased by itself so if you want to match or contrast a cover, comforter or pillows, you can do so
easily.
Another thing to watch out for is the quality of the daybed skirts that come with
a daybed comforter set. These are added to the sets as secondary pieces and can be made out of very
cheap fabrics that may not give you the quality look you want when placed on the daybed. Also, the
patterns or colors may not exactly match that of the comforter. Yet another thing to avoid are skirts that
come with flimsy center fabrics which can be easily ripped while being handled.
You can also put your own finishing touches to a daybed skirt. If you have a
plain skirt, you can add trim lace, an overlay of eyelet or sheer fabric, ribbon trim or beaded
trim.
